We now have a Sgt. Martin in the house!
We had a nice surprise over the holidays when Steve found out he would be promoted in January 2014! What an exciting way to start off the new year! He has just been waiting for everyone to show back up from leave for it to be “official.” This promotion was especially exciting for me, because during the last three he was either in school or Afghanistan. This time, I got to be there and “pin” him with his new rank. They were definitely running on military time for this promotion… Mitchell and I “hurried up” and got there, only to “wait” in the car for an hour. Steve snapped this gem while we were waiting. Cracks me up every time I look at it. Mitchell and his stunna shades.
Back in 2009, I was in love with my Private Martin in the United States Marine Corps. It’s crazy to think how much we’ve grown in these four years. I feel like I am always reminiscing in this blog, but how can I not? I married PFC Martin back in 2010. In 2011, I welcomed home Lance Corporal Martin from Afghanistan, and in 2013, it was Corporal Martin coming home from a second deployment. And now – we’re (well, he’s) kicking of 2014 with a bump up on the Marine Corps food chain. I am so proud of all he accomplished during his first enlistment, and I look forward with excitement and hope for the next enlistment!
It was freezing cold… about 20 degrees. Mitchell just chilled in the chilly weather in his hat and mittens under three fuzzy blankets in the stroller. He ended up taking a nap while everyone stood outside freezing during the ceremony. And yes, I realize I am shaming my New Hampshire and Connecticut stomping grounds when I complain about the 20 degree weather, but we’re in North Carolina and it’s not supposed to be that cold!!! Summer where are you?!
What does this promotion come with? A new MOS and our first PCS. [Plenty more on this later, I am sure]. For those of you non-military folks, that’s a new “job” for Steve and a move for our family! And this all starts in the next few months! Cue anxiety now…
Sgt. Martin and Sgt. Turner are Pensacola bound very shortly!
Goodbye infantry, hello EOD.
And another one with Weitz added in.
And to think when I started this blog six months ago I thought I would run out of things to say. Now I am trying to find time to keep track of it all! And wishing I had started this blog when we were first married to record all of our memories. I don’t want to forget anything about being married to the love of my life. Looking forward, I hope to still be blogging five years down the road, keeping track of our adventures, growing family, and ever-growing love.
Coming soon on the blog: We can’t wait for our weekend of visitors! Brigid (one of my best friends from college – coming from New York) and CJ & Rebecca (one of our best high school friends and Steve’s best man – coming from South Carolina). And…. they all get to meet Mitchell! He’s seeming less and less like a baby and more and more like a little boy. So happy they are coming to meet him before the walking and talking stages are upon us!
